Never consider your WordPress website as “finished.” Rather, think of it as a constantly growing and changing entity that morphs into something new on a regular basis.

Google loves fresh content and a well executed self-hosted WordPress blog site can deliver the goods. You will reign supreme in the SERPS if you periodically go back into pages and posts and re-energize them with updated content.
I can’t tell you how many times I have gone back into earlier posts, given them a content facelift and made them better. Not only did I get rewarded by search engine placement, other websites found the revived posts and linked back to them, boosting my website rankings tenfold.
It’s NEVER a waste of time to go back into earlier posts, update and make them better. When you lack inspiration for a new and and amazing blog post, breathe new life into an earlier post or page that has already been published.
WordPress offers real time tracker plugins like StatPress that will prove unequivocally the benefits of updating previously published posts and pages with fresh content. As long as your WordPress blog is configured properly (XML-RPC, Google Sitemap and RSS), every time you update a page or post, spiders, bots and feeds will come a crawling and you can witness it with a real time tracker.
Reworked posts will go back out through your RSS feed and reworked pages and posts will glean new life in the index.
As an example, I had a blogging gig for a Canadian website. They asked me to optimize previously published articles. I tweaked 22 articles and watched over the course of two months as their placement steadily rose in the index. All I did was go back in and rework the content and optimize each post with one or two search terms.
The site I am referring to shows up in the index as Saugeenrealestate.com and saugeencountyrealestateslidefolio and is now on page one of Google for the search term “buying a home in Walkerton (#5 and #7). Previously, they had zero placement for that search term.
Trust me when I tell you, and please put a deaf ear to all the other SEO pundits that tell you otherwise, revisiting posts and pages and updating with fresh content/optimization is VERY beneficial and not a waste of your valuable time.
