Great blogging is akin to a great piece of music. There is a certain tonal quality, harmony and resonance present in the words we choose. It’s more than just presenting the facts and the “rules” we learned in English Comp 101 don’t always apply to online blogging.
When it comes to blogging, the best way to grab the attention of readers as well as ferment and own the discussion is to follow your gut instincts and allow your personality to shine through with your words.
If you give yourself total permission to roll with the creative flow, words and sentences spring forth effortlessly, transitioning into one another like a beautiful melody or song – and that song will be yours.
Blogging Smart
When I blog, I try and keep it upbeat and postive, but I’m definitely not shy about sharing my point of view. Quite frankly, personal opinion is what makes a blog a blog and why people enjoy reading them in the first place. That being said, blogging smart is not about venting in a huff and carelessly shooting ill-thought-out words out into the blogosphere .
Yes, ranting may feel good in the moment and be a much needed emotional cathartic release but it’s not so great for your online reputation. I say leave those rants in draft for a spell or at least until you’ve cooled your heels and found your neutrality towards whatever got your dander up in the first place. Remember folks, once you publish and hit the send button, it’s like throwing a brick out the window cause you can’t get it back. With the growing popularity of Social Media, words you regret writing today can spread like wild fire, linger out there and haunt you for a very long time.
“Whisper words of wisdom let it be, let be.” ~ Paul McCartney
On that musical note, don’t be afraid to be yourself, even if that means ruffling a few feathers in the process. Great blogging will often stir up the mire and shake a few people out of their comfort zone and that’s OK. Personally, I love a great message that goes against the grain and I love a great debate. As long as it remains civil, on topic and there’s no personal mudslinging, I say bring on the discussion, bring it on!
User-Generated Content, Discussion and Social Media
Comments, questions and discussion add depth and dimension to your original message and if your blogging platform is set up correctly with Social Media, you’ll know unequivocally when you’ve hit a home run with your readers because they’ll share the discussion with other like-mined people.
In the U.S., social networking accounts for 22% of all time spent online and according to a current Nielson report, the total minutes spent on social networking sites has increased 83% year-over-year.

Creation and exchange of user-generated content is here to stay and rapidly transforming the Internet information highway as we know it. So, rock on all you bloggers out there ~ Let it blog, let it blog!
